Laser refractive surgery (LASIK) can improve your eyesight. There are laser procedures that are used to help treat glaucoma, but they don’t necessarily prevent it. There are many other types of surgeries that are performed on the eyes. See the link for more info.
There are various types of surgeries that are done on the eyes.
You refer to ‘improving eye sight’. Well these surgeries are to affect the lens in the eyes to improve vision.
Glaucoma is related to the liquid in the eyeball. There is an entry valve and an exit valve for this liquid. When the exit valve does not function properly the liquid continues to flow into the eyeball and as a result the liquid pressure in the eyeball increases. This liquid keeps on pressing the Optic Nerve endings scattered in the eye ball. Due to this high pressure the nerve endings gradually die one by one. Thus a person will gradually lose his eye sight.
The operation for this is to assist the out flow of the liquid. Thus an eye sight improvement operation cannot help or prevent Glaucoma.
There are various types of other eye problems – like degenaration of the optical nerve, a block in the duct that brings liquid into the eyeball etc. Thus these are completely different problems.
