Boomer, along with Sparty and Thor, is a rescued Norwegian Elkhound. Shortly after her adoption it was discovered that she had glaucoma. She was already blind in her right eye but had vision in her left. She was on two different eye drops to control the pressure. After a while these medications became less effective. This surgery was an ablative treatment to destroy the fluid producing cell in the blind eye and install a mechanical pressure relief/drain in the sight eye and use lasering to reduce the fluid cells. The surgery was successful at the time but ultimately the disease won and Boo went completely blind.

World renowned glaucoma specialist, Dr Iqbal ” Ike” Ahmed, presents a truly amazing lecture on cutting edge glaucoma technology. Dr Ahmed evaluates surgical trabeculectomy and then proceeds to present a potential candidate to replace trabeculectomy. Dr Ahmed presents plasma ablation with the Fugo Plasma Blade to erase sclera such that only a very thin layer of sclera remains. This thinned sclera is thin enough to allow eye aqueous humor to percolate through this thin sclera window and then filter into the subconjunctival space. Dr Ahmed explains that this erasure of sclera with plasma makes non-penetrating surgery simple enough such that most surgeons are able to perform this heretofore very difficult procedure.
